Wolverine Golf Course Water Features

Golf Course Liners for Irrigation Ponds

Problem:

The Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, MI was constructing a new Gary Player designed golf course, The Wolverine, on their sandy property near Lake Michigan.  One pond had plenty of clay for lining, but three others were located in an area of sand and gravel not suitable for containing precious irrigation water.

Solution:

Country Golf Construction president Jerry Deemer contracted with EPI to provide and install 30 mil PVC geomembrane liner in the irrigation ponds and water features.

Three interconnecting ponds were designed in the rolling hills of this world class 18 hole course.  Dramatic views of Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan as well as the surrounding cherry orchards abound on this Northern Michigan course.

Over a quarter million square feet of 30 mil PVC geomembrane was fabricated in EPI's Mancelona facility in order to line the 5 plus acres of ponds.

EPI's installation crews worked with Country Golf's construction crews throughout the project.  The main irrigation pond was required in a timely fashion to provide the necessary irrigation water for newly planted grass seed.  And as with many golf course projects, changes in design had to be accommodated as the construction of other ponds progressed.

These changes were accommodated by easily by EPI using custom fabricated panels for each pond.  The grand opening will be in the spring of 1999, and many serious and recreational golfers will enjoy this spectacular northern Michigan golf course at The Grand Traverse Resort near Traverse City.
